Annie's birth story

Every birthing person should be given the kind of care and attention that Min Fødsel offers. Period.

Unfortunately, that is far from reality, but I consider myself incredibly lucky and grateful to have gone through my pregnancy journey and homebirth with these midwives.

After a traumatic induction experience at a hospital in 2020, choosing to expand my family with a second child was frankly very scary. I met with Maria early on in my pregnancy in hopes to give birth in a birth center or possibly having a more likeminded midwife attend my hospital birth.

Learning neither of these were options here in Norway, I started thinking about a homebirth. I’d never considered it even though I was born at home myself. I live in an apartment! What would people think? I quickly realized that the risk of having a similar hospital experience or being retraumatized greatly outweighed what my neighbors might think if they heard me scream.

And I am so so thankful I made that choice. Maria helped me regain my confidence and work through my trauma to prepare for my second birth with a new perspective, knowing I was in the safe and trusting hands of the Min Fødsel midwives.

Birthe and Petra showed up for me, going above and beyond in the days leading up to my birth, as we were all anxiously awaiting my “home birth time out” at 42 weeks. I felt the whole team was behind me, rooting for me. And sure enough, the night before I would have been forced (by government regulations) to have a hospital birth, my beautiful baby came fiercely and quickly into the world.

I literally had the birth of my dreams. It was incredibly empowering and healing in so many ways.

Maria, Birthe and Petra - I cannot thank you enough for the space you held for me and my family and for the kindness, patience, wisdom and your invaluable time. Because of you three, I maintained my autonomy, I rediscovered my voice and strength, and felt so safe, cared for and empowered to do what was best for me and my baby, resulting in a truly magical homebirth.
