Doula Camilla

We are fortunate to have doula and nurse Camilla Rye with us!

Did you know that the 'doula effect' has been scientifically proven in several studies? The findings show that having a doula for preparation during pregnancy and childbirth can reduce the likelihood of a C-section by up to 50%, reduce the length of labor by 25%, decrease the use of synthetic oxytocin by 40%, reduce the need for an epidural by 60%, and generally enhance the birth experience for the mother.

Camilla is a trained doula, certified through Norway’s longest and most comprehensive doula certification program. She is also a qualified nurse and yoga instructor. Since 2017, Camilla has been working as a doula, leading numerous courses, and supporting a wide variety of women and families. She has extensive knowledge of the body's physiology and needs during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

A doula offers continuous emotional, practical, and informational support during both hospital and home births. The doula does not have any medical responsibility. No permission from the hospital is needed to have a doula present. The doula stays with the mother until the birth is complete, ensuring that support is not interrupted by shift changes. If you wish to have doula support during childbirth, it is recommended to get in touch as early as possible to establish a safe and supportive relationship during part of the pregnancy.

Many people choose to use a doula only during pregnancy and the postpartum period, without having birth support. Camilla offers birth preparation courses with a special focus on how the partner can best support the birthing woman during labor. These include discussions about previous births and preparation for the upcoming birth, pregnancy massage, and various focus and relaxation techniques to calm the nervous system. She also provides physical preparation through beneficial relaxation methods and practice in active birthing positions, breastfeeding support, physical relaxation for both mother and baby after birth (especially for breastfeeding issues and restlessness), baby massage, baby care, help in interpreting baby’s signals and getting to know the child’s cues, guidance in physical activity and diet, and practical postpartum support.

The doula does not interfere with the father's or co-mother's role in the birth but complements and facilitates better interaction between the birthing woman and her closest companions. Fathers and co-mothers often report that they experience the doula as a source of reassurance, allowing them to become more absorbed in the birth experience itself without worrying about remembering everything they learned in the birth preparation course :)
